Junior Captains Blog – Summer is Here!!

junior-blogHi Juniors!!!

As many of you know the club has been very busy over the past couple of weeks and we thought we would do a quick catch-up of all that has been going on!!!

Firstly we would like to say well done to our seven teams who finished their Leinster Tennis U17s and U12s summer leagues recently. We would like to thank the 90 juniors who made themselves available for the junior league this year. Special congratulations to our 2nd U17s team who are the winners of class 2 after beating Shankill’s 1st team in their final in Donnybrook LTC recently. The team consisted of Kevin Boonstra (captain), Aimee Carpenter, Rachael Collins, Cormac Flynn, Connor Johnson,  Eimear Maher, Cora Moloney, Sophie O’Reilly, David Redmond and Owen Whyte, with all players contributing to a very successful league campaign!! This result means that Naas LTC will be able to enter two teams in U17s Class 1 next year 🙂 Well done to our 1st U17s team also, who made the semi-finals of Class 1 and lost to Donnybrook’s 1st team, the eventual winners of Class 1. A huge well done to our 1st U12s Boys team as well, who came runner-up in Class 1 after playing Sutton’s 1st team in their final in Naas!!

We would also like to recognize the participation of over 15 older juniors who played for the senior league teams over the past couple of months. These juniors have made a huge contribution to the success of these teams!! Any junior that has not played senior league yet, but would like the opportunity to do so, should look out for the next opportunity to sign-up. If you have any inquires about senior league don’t be afraid to ask Janeen, Kevin or Brian Gardiner.

The Family Day was held in the club recently and we hope our younger juniors enjoyed the U8s and parent and child competitions and that the bouncy castles and BBQ were to their liking 😉 Our annual Junior v Senior Challenge was held that evening with 14 juniors taking on 14 seniors in a mixture of singles and doubles matches to fight for bragging rights for the coming year. The seniors took an early lead, winning three matches in a row. However, the juniors proved their worth and won the next five!!! So for the first time in five years, trophy sponsor Ronan Ryle was able to announce the juniors as the winners and present the trophy to the junior team captain Janeen Laabei.

For those interested in the summer programme in the club there’s loads to do!! For juniors aged 5-12 years old we have a  tennis camp running from 10:00 until 12:45 each weekday for July and August. For juniors aged 13-16 years old we have a teen summer camp running from 2:00 until 5:00 for July and August also. Both these camps are being co-ordinated by our Junior Co-ordinator, Katie Nolan and anyone interested in attending can book their place through our new online booking system:

>> Juniors Summer Camp link
>> Teen Summer Camp link

That’s all for now, but we’ll be in touch soon!!

Hi Juniors!!

Firstly, the Malahide Junior Open was held recently and Naas LTC was well represented. We would like to say a huge well done to all who participated in the tournament!!

An important part of junior tennis in the club is our continued participation in the DLTC and Leinster Tennis leagues. This Spring/Summer campaign has been very successful so far. We have two teams out of three in U17 League Semi-finals this Sunday and we have two teams out of four in U12 League Semi-finals this Sunday as well. Good luck to everyone playing this weekend and bring back the trophies!!
For teenagers, this term of Friday Night Social Tennis has come to an end and we would like to thank all those who have attended!! We are exploring the idea of running one-off social events throughout the summer for the teenage club members. If you have any ideas make sure and let Janeen and myself know!!
Until next time,

Hi Juniors!!!

  • Calling all teenagers!!! Term 3 of Teenage Social Tennis will start on Friday the 11th of January at 18:15. The past two terms were well attended and we hope to see a great turnout this term. It costs €3 (to cover lights and pizza) and all you need to bring is a racket. If it is your first time attending please sign up here.
  • Along with the Junior Committee, we have decided that the Junior Clubhouse is in need of a new fit out!!! We have been given the opportunity to put together a convincing proposal to purchase much needed furnishings. We feel that at the moment the Junior Clubhouse is not used to its full potential. We believe that new furnishings will allow the Junior Clubhouse to become a social area that all juniors in the club can use on a regular basis.  If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see in your Junior Clubhouse make sure and talk to either Janeen or myself as we are open to all ideas!!! We will have a further blog post at a later date with details about when exactly the Junior Clubhouse will be open and the rules that juniors will have to agree to when using the Junior Clubhouse.
  • A belated congratulations to Conor McCabe, Adebola Obasoto, Marie-Perla Biansumba, Eimear Maher, Rachael Collins, Cora Moloney, Eimear O’Neill, Megan Campion and Janeen Laabei who all qualified for the National Winter Matchplays before Christmas. Especially to Conor McCabe who made the U12 Boys Final and Eimear Maher who won the U14 Girls Final!!!
  • Congratulations to all our juniors who participated in the Wilson National Indoors 2013. Especially to Eimear Maher who made the U14 Girls Final and to Conor McCabe who won the U12 Boys Final!!!
  • Finally, good luck to all our juniors who will be playing on Senior Winter League Teams in the coming weeks. I’m sure the seniors will agree that you bring a new energy to the senior ranks 😉

Until next time,

Junior Captains Blog – Teenage Social Tennis

Hi Juniors!!!

This is the first of what will hopefully be many ‘Junior Captains Blog’ posts, which aim to keep juniors in touch with what is going on in the club. We hope to use this blog to update you regularly on upcoming events, junior issues and junior news.

The first event we hope to run is ‘Teenage Social Tennis’ which will be on Fridays from 18:15 to 20:00, starting this Friday 28th of September. This night is for all juniors currently in secondary school. The night will involve an hour of Cardio Type Tennis, run by Janeen with pizza in the Junior Clubhouse afterwards. Hopefully juniors can use the night to have fun and meet up with other teenagers. The night will cost €3 per teenager (to cover the lights and your pizza!).

All you have to do is sign up online here before Friday.

That’s all for now, hope to see ye all on Friday.
